No Good Deed

I think there is a reason for everything and in particular there is a reason why I’ve become obsessed with the musical Wicked lately. For one thing, I can definitely relate to Elphaba in the song “No Good Deed”

“No Good Deed goes unpunished
Not a charity goes unsresented

That’s my new creed
My road of good intentions
Lead where such roads always lead

Goes Unpunished”

“One question haunts and hurts
Too much - too much to mention
Was I really seeking good
Or just seeking attention?
Is that all good deeds are?
Looked at with an ice-cold eye?
If that’s all good deeds are
Maybe that’s the reason why… “
