Falling down too many times

Yesterday my grandma (Mormor) fell down and injured her hip severely. We do not know the extent of the damage as she is refusing to go to the ER. She injured her arm a while ago and had a bad experience with an ER personnel; therefore she refuses to go to the ER ever again thinking they’ll make her injury worse. Plus she was a nurse so she feels justified in her decision to wait till Monday to see her doctor.

Within the past few years she has been falling every so often and accumulating serious injuries with those falls. Just in the past year her falls/injuries have become more frequent. Just two weeks ago her Varicose vein popped causing her to bleed heavily while she was in the bathtub. She’s a frail 90 year old women with Macular degeneration and Osteoporosis, and yet acts like she is invincible.

Her stubbornness is going to kill her, and I wish she’d let us (me, my mom, HER HUSBAND) help her. I took the day off of work to try to convince her to at least get an x-ray so we can see what the damage is. I’m also going to help her apply for a disabled parking placard so she doesn’t have to walk as much when she does go out with my grandpa. We’ll just see how things go. My mom is going to come down tomorrow and stay with me so I’ll feel a lot better with her being here to help Mormor.

it’s a delicate thing.. getting old. and i admire your grandma for trying to hold on to her youth and vigor. But it always sounds like she needs a good dose of common sense too! she needs to take care of herself! ./worried for her i hope she lets you win on the doctor thing, cause waiting can just make things worse. *hugs and warm thoughts*

I’m sorry about your grandmother, even though I’ve seen on your Myspace that she’s improving now. Watching someone go through that and be that stubborn wouldn’t be fun.

Oh wow, I hope all is well with her now…did she go to her doctor this week? How scary…yeah stubbornness is not good, hopefully she will understand that eventually.
