Why I Hate Customer Service… sometimes
Written on Thursday, February 28th, 2008 @ 3:02pm

Wow, so I found a blog where the comments have being going on for over a year now simply about the security tags in Gap Inc. clothing. If you have ever bought a pair of pants, a jacket, or a high priced item from Old Navy, Gap, or Banana Republic, surely by now you’ve noticed a small tag inside the clothing telling you to, “REMOVE BEFORE WASHING OR WEARING.

The great thing about this article is that employees have commented there defending themselves against the stupid customers we have to deal with on a daily basis. By the time I got to the end of the comments, everything I wanted to say had been said and then some.

I get really sick and tired of some of the idiots who have had the nerve to blame the tag/alarm issue on me instead of taking responsibility for overlooking a rather large, sharp tag that’s right in the front part of the crotch of a pair of jeans where you can clearly see it. Don’t hate the tag. Wouldn’t you rather have something small to cut out yourself instead of having to bring it back to us to use those old pressure point machines to remove them?

I know I wouldn’t. I once went home from a shopping trip at Victoria’s Secrets only to discover my new panty still had its tag on it. Now, I live 45 minutes away from the nearest Victoria’s Secrets. The last thing I’d want to do is drive all the way out there because of a stupid tag. Yet, if I don’t, I risk damaging my goods by trying to remove it myself. I’d rather have a label to cut off rather than stab my panties with some pliers.

By having tags like these, the stores are offering convenience to you, as to not have to return to the store to have the tag removed, and to keep the price of the merchandise down, to not have to buy expensive tags and to also regulate theft.

There was one comment I found interesting that no one seemed to argue because they’d rather boo hoo about the tags…

I work for a company that makes these tags. I’ve heard numerous complaints about them, but I haven’t heard any good suggestions on alternative security measures. How would you recommend we stop theft and make it convenient for the customer?

I think this one topped it off because I find myself making a list of things in my head that I hate customers doing…

And a few more things to help people be better consumers- don’t leave your trash about (every register has a trash can), don’t change your child’s diaper on a table of tee shirts (it has happened), don’t spit your tobacco on the floor please, don’t unfold every shirt you touch, most likely- the bigger sizes will be on bottom, our store is not chucky cheese’s so please control your kids, most newer Old Navys have large neon signs and arrows that point to the fitting room- LOOK UP, those shoes with wheels your kid wears- most likely we all are secretly wanting to trip them because they are annoying, learn to read the signs- if a sign says ‘capris $15′ don’t bring us a skirt that was next to it and try to tell us the sign said it was on sale, and lastly- don’t act like a pig- would you just leave food on your clothes at home? Just helpful reminders.

Seriously people. I don’t make the music played in the store, I don’t make the return policy, and I don’t make the prices. Get the heck over it!

Yup. Some people fail. I can’t think of a better alternative to those tags either. *scratches head* :P

LOL. Hahaha…a lot of those annoyances I can totally relate to from when I worked at Kohls. :P

As an Old Navy employee — AMEN! And I want to add, THERE’S A LINE IN THE FRONT. At least at our store, line up at the effing designated area. Don’t go up to registers individually :)
